Acne occurs most frequently among teenagers -- almost 80% of all of them-- although it considered normal in most of the US and other developed countries. Increased sexual hormone activty, rapid growth, lack of a proper diet and many other reasons canbe attributed to its occurence.

The key then, is to catch acne while it is still formative or when it is just beginning to happen and to stop it there. By the time we look to treat ourselves, we generally tend to be too late or at least, we are going to take time with many of our common acne treatment creams -- they cause more trouble by bringing about redness, soreness and irritation.

Few products help you curtail the culprit and nip the bud just when it starts to show its ugly head. The Clearogen Anti-DHT Acne Treatment Set is the perfect answer because it is a complete kit for your acne treatment; it helps you stop acne growth right when it just begins to show incidence and finally, it is incredibly effective.

According to the Product Description on salonhive, " Clearogen Acne Product gets to the root cause by reducing the production of the hormone by-product DHT (Dihydro-Testosterone) which stimulates excessive oil production in the sebaceous glands resulting in acne.

By preventing the buildup of DHT, Clearogen allows the normal oil production vital to healthy skin. No other over the counter product for acne work by this mechanism."

Diet and Acne: Can Your Food Get Rid of Acne?

February 28, 2009 by ashwin · Leave a Comment

Over the years, the debate raged on and some doctors and dermatologists claim there is no correlation to what you eat and what happens to your skin. Some of them, in fact, claimed that what we eat only affects our general well-being, strength and other motor functions, but not skin to the extent that it can cause acne. Most people find it easier to apply creams and other great products available with many retailers.  However, a lot of people have observed that certain foods do aggravate the incidence of acne.

Acne is said to be caused due to anyone or more of the following:

  1. Puberty
  2. Nutritional Deficiency
  3. Lack off Zinc and Vitamin B6.

It is also caused if your body has poor elimination mechanisms -- like bowel tension, constipation, liver congestion or toxicity; lack of exercise, family history and finally stress.

Foods like chocolates, nuts, coffee, fried foods and all sorts of cola drinks, anything that has too much of oil in it, etc are the ones that are to be blamed. It is then, a highly sensible approach to maintain a healthy diet( Cliched, though it might  be) and stay away from junk-food, icecreams and all of the other type of foods mentioned above.

Remember that a diet low in fat ( animal fat and butter fat) will be instrumental in curing you of acne.

3 Natural Ways To Cure Your Hair From Dandruff

February 28, 2009 by ashwin · Leave a Comment

Medicated shampoos -- even some of those available with The Salonhive Store might nor might not work for everyone, but it so happens that natural methods -- easy ones that you could teach your 8 year old daughter too -- either alone or in supplement with medicated shampoos might just do  the trick. Even more effective way of doing it is to actually use mild-medicated shampoos with one or more of the 3 great tips that follow:

1. Look to the Kitchen: Did you know that food isn't the only thing your kitchen can produce; dandruff cure is available too. One of  the most effective ways -- based on some of the experiences reported, of course -- is to wash yyour hair with two eggs beaten in one-half cup of lukewarm water. Yet another way( this one is herbal), is to prepare a nettle solution by steeping one -quarter cup of dried nettles one another cup of boiling water. Cool this solution and then add another quarter cup of vinegar. Massage this to your scalp twice per day, everyday.

2. Apple a day keeps the doctor and dandruff away: Well, not really. But if you use Apple Cider Vinegar as a rinse, it can be very effective in curing dandruff. This is and always will be a baby-boomer, old- folks remedy for dandruff and it should work like a charm.Warm the Cider first, gently pour it on to your head and wrap a towel around your head. Leave it that way for about an hour or so and then go ahead and wash.

3. Vitamin E: Did you know that Vitamin E is effective in curing dandruff? Vitamin E can be used as a tonic for your hair by using a mild shampoo with bran or cornmeal. Try rubbing the cornmeal into your scalp and halr. Then brush it out. You'd experience dry hair, minus the dandruff ,of course.

Modern Hair Styles at the Oscars

MODERN HAIR STYLES:

The Oscars have been and gone and the actors and actresses who light up our screen are as concerned about their hair on the big night, as we would be. How the superstars wear their hair can predict the most modern summer styles for 2009. So what does a night at the Oscars tell us about what’s hot in hair.

Most popular of all styles on the red carpet this year was the updo. This most classic of evening hair styles was revived into a modern style this season, as Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, Kate Winslet and the stunning Nathalie Portman all wore the updo with classic style. Penelope Cruz added bangs to her updo giving it a modern twist, as bangs are a big hit this summer.

Standing right next to the updo, as the modern makeover in hair styling, was the half up/ half down, do.

Angelina Jolie and Jessica Biel wore their gorgeous locks casually with a half swept updo, leaving their luxurious locks tumbling over their shoulders for a very sexy look of innocence and sex kitten, Yes, even with ten kids Angelina can pull off the sex kitten look. The half up/half down, do is easy to accomplish, requiring only a few hair clips and a few minutes. Great for busy Mums. The trick to making this easy to do hair style is to make sure your hair looks healthy and glossy, most of us with long hair struggle to keep split ends and dry fuzz away, the secret is a good hair oil treatment like Queen Helene Green tea oil treatment or Earthly Body’s exotic Marrakech Moroccan oil treatment.

By far the most popular hairstyle of the night and most modern look for this summer’s style is a loose bun with long bangs. Miley Cirus looked fantastic wearing this cut. It’s sexy, cute, carefree and casual. The great thing about bangs is that you can totally change your look by sweeping them to the side or parting them in the middle. You can even pin them back, check out Slumdog Millionaire actress Frieda Pinto, she pinned her bangs back with a half up/half down do, and achieved a modern makeover of a saucy look.

A loose bun with bangs can be worn by women with long hair, or short, young or more mature, the magic word in modern style this summer is BANGS.

The updo is a classic style made modern. The vintage updo’s could be made quite elaborate and require hours of preparation and careful pinning. The modern make over of the updo is easy to achieve. Simply decide how much hair you want to leave down, gather the rest of your hair in a pony tail hold, twist and sweep up casually, twist and pin securely. Tease and pull a few strands by the ears.

So, if you want to update your hairstyle but are afraid to let go of the length it just took you two years to grow then get some bangs, and sweep your hair into an updo or a half up/half down do, but remember to leave some sexy strands straggling down by your ears for elfin appeal.

The key words are casual, relaxed, and slightly disheveled, like you just rolled out of bed. Miaow.

Tamanu Oil: Natural Healing

February 19, 2009 by Jennifer · Leave a Comment

I have been taking an interest in natural healing solutions lately.  I know I’m not alone.  Tons of people are paying more attention to what’s in their cosmetics and skin care products these days. And more and more often I am coming across testimonials from people who have benefited from the use of Tamanu oil for skin conditions.

Used by Polynesians for hundreds of years, Tamanu oil is hailed as an amazing topical skin healing agent, and has been to treat skin ailments such as sunburn, cracked skin, acne scars, shingles, eczema, blisters, scrapes and cuts. Its therapeutic properties have long been touted in the South Pacific islands, but widespread use of the oil is relatively recent to European and American markets, where it is now being added to cosmetics and medications as well as being sold in its pure form.  Not only do the oil’s anti-inflammatory properties soothe the skin, but it also seems to promote the formation of new tissue (hello, anti-aging!)

The oil comes from the Tamanu tree (Calophyllum tacamahaca), which is native to the South Pacific.  The fruit of the tree is cold-pressed to produce the oil. As with any nut product, people with an allergy to any sort of nut should not use Tamanu oil, but as for the rest of us?  Seems like a handy thing to have around.

Get Your Skin Ready for Spring

February 18, 2009 by Jennifer · Leave a Comment

You’ve been taking good care of your skin all winter long, and now that fat robins are starting to hop around outside and signs of spring are upon us, it’s time to think about adapting your skin care regimen to reflect the change in the seasons. Spring cleaning is not just for your apartment: Your skin could use a good detox after the harsh winter months, as well.

Start by exfoliating – everything. Your face, knees, elbows… we’ve been hiding out under coats and scarves over the past few months, and it’s time to prepare our skin to be exposed to the world again. Get rid of flaky skin with a good body exfoliator. Apply a scrub in a warm (not hot) shower, give yourself a good rub (but be careful – the grains in some scrubs have jagged edges that can harm your skin) and finish up with a coat of nice body moisturizer or oil once you’re out of the shower. Try one with alpha-hydroxy acids to give your skin an extra glow.

Now for your face. If a spa day is not in your budget, try an at-home facial to detox your pores and rejuvenate your tired skin. Steam your pores open in the shower or over a bowl of warm water (be careful not to make it too hot! Steam can burn!), then follow up with a light facial scrub to gently remove dead skin cells. When you’re good and smooth, apply a face lotion and lip balm with SPF. Now that you’re probably going to be spending more and more time outside, you definitely don’t want to skimp on the sunscreen!

Finish up by treating yourself to a pedicure. You may not be wearing sandals just yet, but it’s not too early to start getting those rough feet and messy cuticles in order. Soak your tootsies in a tub of warm water and bath salts, then dry them thoroughly and apply a foot cream. Clean the residue off of your toenails with a pad soaked with polish remover so they’re oil-free and ready for polish. Two careful coats of color, a layer of top coat and you’re good to go. A girl always feels a little more cheery when she’s got color on her toes!  It may not be shorts weather, but at least your skin is prepped and ready for warmer weather to arrive.

How to Address Female Hair Loss Problems

February 8, 2009 by ashwin · Leave a Comment

Have you been thinking that only men seem to suffer from rampant hair loss? Well, the news is that women suffer from it too and inf act it is very embarrassing for a women to contend with hair fall which leads to thinning of the scalp or partial baldness.

Now many products, with regards to baldness, ignore this aspect altogether and the entire industry seems to be bent on making products for men and their problem of baldness, but very few address female hair loss or female baldness(which might not be complete like that for men,but it is a problem nonetheless).

Inhairit, is the answer to those women who seem to suffer from temporary partial baldness. Inhairit addresses this problem by reducing the DHT hormone level( the hormone that happens to effect the genetically inclined men and women and degrades the hair follicles which causes them to fall off over time) which causes hair loss. The results come to be proven within a few weeks in some cases and Inhairit is so sure about its working that it actually has a 180 day money back guarantee.

Some sources recommend that you use inhairit products in tandem with some other special shampoo and conditioners, but experts opine that it isn't required. Proper hair care and the usage of Inhairit products should be enough on its own to show results.

Jasnson Becket Cosmeceuticals: Skin Care’s Most Advanced Treatments

February 8, 2009 by Tracy · Leave a Comment

Janson Beckett Skin Care

Retaining or regaining a youthful appearance is a strong desire common to just about all of us. For age-conscious consumers, there certainly is no shortage of options to help us look our best: surgery, injections and fillers, laser resurfacing, and increasingly, a scientifically advanced class of topical skin care treatments called cosmeceuticals.

Most cosmeceuticals today contain synthetic ingredients called peptides – chains of amino acids (proteins). Peptides were initially valued in medical practice for their anti-inflammatory benefits; eventually, the ability of chemists to produce peptides small enough and stable enough to interact at the skin’s cellular level showed great promise for general skin care.

During the last several years, peptides have been proven quite effective as an anti-aging treatment, due primarily to their ability to interrupt and diminish the repetitive muscle contractions that are responsible in part for the development of facial lines. Not surprisingly, skin care companies large and small began touting the benefits of peptides, implementing them into their product lines. Janson Beckett Cosmeceuticals was among the first companies in the skin care industry to properly place the role of peptides at the core of its product development strategy. The result was a new category of cosmeceuticals called high-performance anti-aging. Equally important, the company was uniquely positioned to leverage four decades of experience in developing natural skin care formulations to create a comprehensive, well-balanced regimen of anti-aging treatments that could safely and effectively address all of the common signs of damaged skin.

Repair, Maintain, Prevent

A well-crafted anti-aging regimen goes beyond the realm of providing a “temporary fix” and provides the consumer with the ability to repair damaged skin, maintain the skin’s improved health, and prevent future skin damage. Janson Beckett’s core of seven premium-grade, high-performance anti-aging treatments do precisely this. Comprised of Organic Cleanser, Organic Toner, Facial Skin Prep, AlphaDerma CE (BOTOX Alternative), Vitamin C Facial Serum (Collagen Synthesis), Derma Excel 7 Spot Treatment, and OkuSil Under Eye Treatment, this unique system blends optimum percentages of peptides (ranging from 10% to 25% of formulation) with powerful antioxidants, proven firming agents, exceptional moisturizers, and select key actives that plump and strengthen skin structure (such as Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, and Elastin).

In short, the Janson Beckett regimen transforms aging skin into age-resistant skin, correcting or diminishing all of the typical problems: fine facial lines on the brow, sides of eyes, and lips; under eye puffiness and discoloration; sagging skin and loss of elasticity; loss of radiance; and uneven tone (hyperpigmentation).

Cumulative Care

The efficacy of peptides has been demonstrated clinically. The main peptide used in Janson Beckett’s cosmeceutical treatments, Argireline, has been shown to reduce wrinkle depth by 27% in only 30 days. Because Janson Beckett fortifies its peptide formulations with essential actives that enhance the benefits of the “wrinkle correcting” action of Argireline, it is not uncommon for the company’s customers to achieve results that outdistance the clinical studies.

With any topical anti-aging skin care regimen, expectations should be set fairly. Consumers should take into account factors such as genetics, environment (photo damage), and habits (diet, exercise, and smoking), and view their skin care regimen as a cumulative process. But there is little doubt that consistent daily use of treatments from cosmeceutical leaders like Janson Beckett are providing a safe, lower cost alternative to restoring skin to its most youthful appearance.

Mineral Makeup for the Blushing Bride?

February 8, 2009 by Jennifer · Leave a Comment

I’m a newly-engaged bride-to-be, and as such, I am, sadly, incredibly self-centered right now. I, like many brides, am obsessing about my wedding dress, my wedding hair, my wedding skin. In my hunt for the perfect bridal make-up look (i.e. a natural, no-makeup look, yet one that perfectly obscures every single tiny flaw in my complexion and also magically causes onlookers to mistake me for Audrey Hepburn), I am becoming more and more interested in mineral makeup.

Mineral makeup – face and eye makeup made of ground-up, naturally-occurring earth pigments – purportedly does not contain the usual (artificial) ingredients of “traditional” makeup. Fans of the stuff will have you believe that ththe natural ingredients make the cosmetics healthier for your skin, while critics allege that mineral makeup basically contains the same ingredients that have been incorporated into face makeup for years - zinc oxide, titanium dioxide – and that the makeup’s recent popularity is all marketing hype. Either way, I find that brushing the mineral powders on my face gives me some light coverage and even a luminosity that my usual liquid foundation does not. I love how the powder evens out my blotchy skin, but is still light enough that my freckles show through. If you apply too much, you can buff away the excess, and it’s easy to blend the color from my face over my neck. Generally easy to use and it gives me the natural look I want. I may have found my perfect wedding makeup!

How To Prevent Hair Loss Just By Eating

February 6, 2009 by ashwin · Leave a Comment

Someone once said " be very careful of what goes IN and OUT of your mouth" and that person couldn't have been farther from the truth. Just as it is true with respect to any part of our body, diet makes or breaks the condition of the human body.

The strength, look and feel of our hair depends very much on our dietary habits and it pays to keep in mind what to avoid and what to consume if we -- both men and women -- want to see longer and healtheir days for our crowing glory.

What not to eat:

Ironical it might seem,, but the tastiest and most common foods are actually an absolute no-no when it comes to healthy hair. Salt, Tomatoes, Millet, Fatty foods, animal fat, cold drinks like carbonated drinks and alcohol, sugary drinks and syrups, spicey food, any food rich in oil and excessive citrus fruit intake can damage your hair.

What to Eat:

Not so glamorous but healthy indeed -- almost all kinds of root vegetables like potato( especially the outer skin), beet, radish, carrots, onions and ginger; pumpkin, oats and brown rice; black pepper; nuts and grains; wholesome vegetables; green, leafy vegetables; micro algae and other seaweed, etc.

Good diet is  instrumental in ensuring proper health for the whole body, hair included. Boring it might sound, but effective  it certainly is.

Go get the power diet today and see your hair glowing. For more detailed information on Hair Loss visit the Hair Loss Association.
